Au Pairs wanting to come to The United Kingdom may only apply if they come from the following countries:
Any country within the European Union
or
Andorra, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Hungary, Liechtenstein, Macedonia, Malta, Monaco, San Marino, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Switzerland or Turkey
An Au Pair works 25 hours per week, plus up to 3 nights babysitting a week. Generally helps with light house work, children and babysitting. Au Pairs receive £50 pocket money per week.
An Au Pair Plus has the same duties as an Au Pair but works 7 hours per day, plus between 3/4 nights babysitting a week. An Au Pairs Plus receives £60 pocket money per week.
A Mother's Help works full time, with the same duties as for Au Pairs. They must have, at least, two full days off per week. They can live in or live out. A Mother's Help is paid £90 - £150, on a live-in basis, or £150 - £200 living out.
Conditions for au pairs from outside the European Union are controlled by The Home Office, who stipulate that they should work for no more than 5 hours a day, for no more than 5 days a week, in return for at least £45 per week pocket money. Two days each week must be completely free of duties. Au Pairs from within The European Union may work more hours in return for more pocket money.
Please keep in mind that, even though you may be coming here primarily to learn English and to experience English culture, your family will be looking to you to also reliably perform your agreed duties. Your family will be doing their utmost to make you feel at home, and most au pairs quickly settle in to become very much part of the family. However, you should bear it in mind that you could find it quite different at first and may need to give it time to settle into family life.
